Mission
LIGHT’s mission is to accelerate innovation in healthcare by bringing together advanced technological infrastructure, academic expertise, and industrial know-how. The center provides researchers and companies with tools, services, and experimental environments to develop and validate reliable, ethical AI solutions in Biopharma, Digital Health Care, and AI & Big Data, fostering high-impact projects and national and international collaborations.
Vision
LIGHT envisions a new generation of health technologies grounded in trustworthy and ethical artificial intelligence, capable of improving prevention, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and care. By strengthening public–private collaboration and integrating basic research with industrial and experimental capabilities, the center aims to become a leading hub for technology transfer and operational innovation in health and wellbeing, transforming scientific advances into concrete products, services, and healthcare models.
History
On January 30, 2023, the University of Brescia, Antares Vision Group, and Dompé Farmaceutici formally established LIGHT S.c.ar.l. as a public–private partnership supported through the PNRR Innovation Infrastructure framework. The center was designed as a distributed infrastructure, with its main headquarters in Brescia and additional sites connected to project partners, to support innovation in artificial intelligence, biopharmaceuticals, and digital healthcare.
Equality
LIGHT promotes equal opportunities as an integral part of its organizational culture and research strategy. Through its Gender Equality Plan 2024–2025, the center is committed to building an inclusive, respectful, and fair working environment, with actions addressing equitable recruitment and career progression, work–life balance, training, and the prevention of gender-based discrimination and harassment. At the same time, LIGHT recognizes that equality must also shape innovation itself: gender considerations are integrated into research design, team composition, and the development of AI and data-driven healthcare solutions, with specific attention to identifying and reducing gender bias in algorithms, datasets, and digital health technologies. The Plan is supported by concrete governance and monitoring measures, including a Gender Equality Officer, annual audits, mandatory training, periodic evaluation, and collaborations on gender-related research initiatives.
